Legal
Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 14, 2026
This page describes exactly what Budling collects and why — no legal boilerplate, just what actually happens when you use the app. Budling is an English-learning flashcard app with a pixel-pet companion. We don't run ads and we don't sell your data to anyone.
Account data
When you create an account (email/password, Google, or GitHub), we store your name, email address, and — for Google/GitHub sign-in — the provider's account identifier so we can recognize you on future logins. We never see or store your Google or GitHub password.
If you set a public username and bio, those are visible to anyone at your public profile page. Your email is never shown publicly.
Study data
Flashcard sets, cards, and your study history (spaced-repetition scheduling, accuracy, streaks) are stored so your progress persists across sessions and devices. This data is private to your account unless you explicitly mark a set as public.
Telegram bot
If you link a Telegram account, we store your Telegram user ID, your chosen timezone, and your notification preferences (which reminders you want, quiet hours) so the bot can message you at the right times. Linking is optional and can be undone from your settings.
Analytics
We use PostHog (EU-hosted) to understand how people use Budling — page views, feature usage, and click patterns, via a cookie and browser localStorage. This only runs in production, never during local development or automated testing. We don't use this data for advertising, and we don't share it with third parties beyond PostHog itself acting as our data processor.
Where your data lives
Application data is stored with Neon (PostgreSQL), hosted in the EU (Frankfurt, Germany). The app itself is hosted on Vercel. Rate-limiting and caching use Upstash Redis. Contact form emails are sent via Resend.
Cookies & local storage
We use a session cookie to keep you signed in, and PostHog's cookie/localStorage entries for analytics (production only). We don't use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
Your rights
You can request a copy of your data or ask us to delete your account at any time — reach out via the contact form. We'll act on deletion requests within a reasonable timeframe.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page and the date above. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notice.
